Julius Smith II

VISTA Analyst

Julius currently serves as an Analyst for EPCOG through our new partnership with Americorps and the Economic Development Association. Julius is an Americorps VISTA member. He is assigned to assist EPCOG with economic development. As the VISTA analyst, he will gather data, resources, and knowledge to analyze and aid in building systems to combat poverty. Julius will be responsible for various data structures, including big data, data analytics and visualization, process improvement, and other capacity-building instruments.


Julius served in the Air Force at Canon Air Force Base. After separating from the military, he settled in this region and continued his education in New Mexico. In 2018, Julius continued with trade study at Roswell Job Corps Center (RJCC). Julius continued his volunteer activities through leadership as a TABE tutor for Math, English, and Literacy. Julius graduated from the Electrical Wiring Pre-Apprenticeship Program as the Lead Foreman specializing in Solar Principles. He then continued with advanced career training in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Specialty program. After vocational training, he plans to achieve well-rounded educational pursuits. In 2020, he studied accounting at Colorado Technical University. Julius currently studies business administration at the University of Colorado. Julius hopes to continue his educational advances with business and project management graduate studies.


Currently, Julius serves as the secretary of AGA, formerly the Association of Government Accountants. Additionally, he is an IMA Ambassador for the Institute of Managerial Accountants (IMA). Julius is a member of the local chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI). During his time with RJCC, Julius served as Chairman of the Career and Technical Education Committee. He assisted with roles for the high school program, tutoring, various trades, and morale.


As a native of North Carolina, Julius enjoys country life. His hobbies include modernized homesteading skills such as breadmaking, gardening and herbalism, transcendentalism, cooking, and fine dining. Julius is a perennial student. He values the act of learning, equipping others, and pampering his pet dog, bird, and tortoise. Julius understands how vital agriculture is to the State of New Mexico. He looks forward to a career cultivating strategic economic development for isolated communities with geographic barriers becoming self-sustaining.
